Welcome to The Poison Review, a critical update and evaluation of recent scientific literature, news stories, and cultural events related to the field of medical toxicology. Our interests are wide-ranging and eclectic, since we take our philosophy from Paracelsus, often called the father of toxicology: “All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous.”
With TPR, we will attempt to capture some of the variety, fun, and scientific rigor of our regular toxicology teaching rounds in Chicago. These sessions can cover anything from evaluation of the latest journal articles related to poisoning, toxicology in the news or in popular media, historical topics, musical tox . . . etc etc. Toxicology is probably the medical specialty with the most interaction between the clinical and the general culture — it’s where science meets the zeitgeist. We hope that this blog captures some of that interaction.
