This activity focuses on current issues related to the use of neuromuscular blockade and reversal in complex patients in the postoperative and intensive care unit (ICU). The faculty address the key issues and provide practice pearls for physicians and pharmacists.The content for this activity is based on questions and comments from participants at a recent educational symposium on this topic.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this application-based educational activity, participants should be able to:Discuss the role of neuromuscular blockade in complex patients, including shivering in targeted temperature management (TTM), asthma, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and end of life.Compare methods to monitor neuromuscular blockade and sedation in patients receiving a neuromuscular blocking agent.Apply recommendations from current guidelines in patient case scenarios.
